Parisian fashion house Paule Ka showcases nuances of Russian style in its pre-autumn 2019 collection.

The label’s latest line takes inspiration from Leo Tolstoy’s fictional heroines such as Anna Karenine and Natasha Rostov as well as Russian prima ballerina Anna Pavlova.

Other elements embodied in the collection include Slavic heritage, the scenery of the Bolshoi Theatre and the multi-coloured tiles of Saint Basil’s Cathedral which is a masterpiece of Moscow architecture.

Tops, skirts, blouses, dresses and trousers are featured in a variety of jewel tones, gold and silver, toques and immaculate fake fur ideal for watching a ballet in Moscow or a stroll in GUM’s Russia’s main department store that boasts a variety of high-end boutiques.

Every outfit is embellished by its colour, fabric, cut or accessory. The buttons are like jewels, the trimmings are accentuated and the tweeds look like multi-coloured mosaics. The clothing is unstructured, mixed with denim or cut in a contemporary way.

The collection features plenty of separates to mix and match including tweed skirts, high neck, V-neck and cowl sweaters as well as a range of trousers such as the Cossack-style trousers.

The shearling, long Mongolian wool or saffron faux fur are soft to the touch and resemble a cosy cocoon. Rich brocade dresses and tops, soft black or garnet velvet outfits, ruffled skirts or large couture knots are also mixed with decorative passementerie belts and clutches.

Designers have also added luxurious woollen guipure lace on long skirts and miniskirts with blends of lace and velvet. The dresses and ivory openwork skirts on tulle look elegant and perfect for cooler weather, especially when accentuated with ruched boots.

There are also animal-printed sequins and quilted or powdery satins inspired by the paintings of Leon Bakst or the costumes of The Firebird. Get set to dazzle at the opera in Paule Ka’s with gold, ruby or emerald coloured satin or velvet gowns.

Whether stepping out to paint the town red or admire the architecture and history, this fancy, fierce female has a look fit for every occasion.
