Gulf Weekly Trending colours of autumn

Autumn is here and this season is all about creating cosy, comforting homes using rich and deep colour tones.

According to House Beautiful magazine, the hottest shades include Peacock blues, deep rouge, berry tones and black kitchens. However, if these colours seem too dark to decorate with, pinks and greens are still an ‘in’ thing too.

The experts have spoken and these are the top five trends to consider when getting autumn ready.

1. Ruffle feathers with peacock blue

This strong look can easily be managed by pairing it with lighter colours such as millennial pink. It prevents the peacock shade from being overwhelming. Try using a deeper shade of blue for curtains and tableware to add depth. Break up that scheme with pops of mustard and even florals.

2. Black is back

Black is classic and can be combined with anything. Last year, black accessories were a trend and now it’s creeping into the furniture industry too. According to Pip Prinsloo, Partner & Head of Design, Home at John Lewis & Partners, the “Little Black Chair” is predicted to be the style icon of the dining room. For those opting to use black dining chairs, keep the room looking warm with pops of colours and textures.

3. Glitter into the season

Sparkle and shine with gold, brass and copper embellishments. Tie in a room through metallic accessories or as part of furniture pieces.

4. Get retro

One of the quickest, easiest and most cost effective ways to stay up to date on trends is making small changes within a space. For example, purchase new beddings or invest in potted plants and throws. With retro looks still being popular, consider graphic furnishings, blankets, cushions and even artwork featuring geometric shapes. It’s bold, beautiful and modern.

5. Purple power

Purple is one of those rich colours that is going to be a big hue for this season. This jewel shade is designed to dazzle and can transform a space to give off a dramatic and moody vibe. However, it’s still a comforting colour. Use shades such as greys and forest green to ground the look.
