Bahrain’s bikers cruised across the kingdom on their mean machines dressed up in their best “pretty in pink” looks with the aim of raising awareness about breast cancer.
The Ride in Pink event, organised by the Ladies of Harley Bahrain Chapter and the Harley Owners Group (HOG) Bahrain Chapter with the support of the Harley-Davidson Bahrain dealer, was created to help raise the profile of the appeal as well as funds to be donated to the Salmaniya Medical Care Centre.
More than 400 motorcyclists and almost 18 biker groups, featuring men and women of all ages and nationalities, hopped on their Harleys at 8am in front of the dealership in Budaiya to paint the town pink and make a moving two-wheeled statement.
Priya Shankar, the Ladies of Harley Bahrain chapter officer, said: “The Ride in Pink is all about the biker community getting together every year and doing something for the local community by dressing up in pink and taking part in a ride across the island raising awareness and cash for this great cause.”
The riders revved their engines in harmony as the pink parade set off on a pre-decided route taking in the sights and waving to people in other vehicles before making their way back to the showroom where the big-hearted bikers enjoyed a tasty breakfast together.
Yog Shrusti, founder of an interactive agency who rides a lowrider, from Busaiteen, said: “A lot of people refuse to talk about breast cancer so we wanted to create awareness by riding together in pink and I wanted to be a part of this awareness. Our look is so distinctive that people watching us ride by start to ask questions and that is great. We want people to talk and be inquisitive. After our pink ride, everyone posted their pictures on their own social media feeds which many people then saw. People would then comment and interact.
“I have participated in this event twice in the past and I will definitely be joining again next year.”
