Popular Bahraini culinary figure Narise Nabil Kamber has whipped up a cook book to bring families back into the kitchen while also raising funds for the Royal Charity Organisation (RCO).
The mother-of-four, who is known across the island for her delicious diamond desserts from her bakery and traditional Bahraini fare from her cafés, has whisked together a series of her family-favourite recipes into a book entitled From my Kitchen.
The 110-page book, which features 40 recipes written in Arabic and English, took around a year to simmer and complete. It was served up to food lovers across the kingdom last month at Neo Books & Coffee at Riffa Palms, and Narise couldn’t be happier.
She said: “What I want from this book is to bring families back together into the kitchen. We live in a time where phones and technology have built walls between individuals, even in their own homes. Having the simple activity of cooking from a book that has colourful pictures and childhood recipes will result in sharing a day of joy and creation with the family.
“Plus, all the proceeds of this book, 100 per cent, will be donated for the charity programmes at the RCO that are created for the children who lost their fathers. Whether they need it for medical aid, tuition, leisure activities and so forth.”
The book has already picked up a following, with mums in Bahrain sending the recipes of nourishment and love to their children studying and living abroad. The book store, which had 400 of the cookbooks on the shelf, are almost sold out and Narise had sold around 100 as well. The RCO were also given 500 books to be sold or handed out as they wish in upcoming fairs and festivals.
Narise added: “Many mothers told me that they sent my cookbook to their children abroad and some have started cooking from it successfully.”
