As I was doing my research for this piece, there were many articles pertaining to whether the 30th year in the life of a Khaleeji girl may be the beginning of a midlife crisis.
I’m not sure if I’m in denial about this or if I just don’t believe it for good reason.
My research has also shown that when a Khaleeji girl enters her 30s, she’s nowhere close to going through a midlife crisis. She’s simply entering her second phase of adolescence. In fact, according to columnist Lulia Cirtina from the online magazine Elite Daily, the teenager is still there. She said: “You still do wild, irresponsible things and you still feel like you don’t know a lot about the world. You still feel like you belong in a club or can come home at a late hour after a night out.”
While I see where Lulia is coming from, I would like to add into that many other points. For one, we’re only 30. Many of us have just started to understand and accept what life has for us be it in terms of our careers, education, family and so on.
We may be a bit older than we were in our 20s but isn’t that a blessing in disguise?
Doesn’t that mean that all the bad situations that come across us during our 20s have only made us smarter? All the breakups and job roles we desperately wanted but didn’t get could have only been lessons for us, right?
That’s how this Khaleeji girl chooses to see it. No, it’s not because I’m 100 per cent optimistic all the time. It’s because I refuse to waste my time labeling this significant time of my life as anything negative.
