More than 250 cyclists came together at Bahrain Bay to participate in the two-day Bahrain Cycling Festival, writes Naman Arora.
The event culminated in a ride with the international Bahrain McLaren team as well as renowned Manx professional cyclist Mark Cavendish, who has won 30 Tour de France stages and 48 Grand Tour stages.
The entourage was led by 30 members of the Harley Owners Group (HOG) and included members of the Bahrain Cycling Academy’s development team, a newly created feeder team of seven Bahrainis being trained for the Bahrain McLaren UCI WorldTeam cycling team.
Cavendish said during a press conference after the event: “It has been just over a month since I joined the Bahrain McLaren team. It was great to see the support we got from cyclists. It was also my first time riding (with the Bahrain Cycling Academy). I haven’t yet worked with them, since most of my training is with the Bahrain McLaren team, but I am excited to see how they do in coming races.”
