As the government has lifted restrictions, allowing certain businesses to open, it is ever-more crucial to ensure that facial protection is worn appropriately, as required by the Ministry of Health.

The MOH Covid-19 task force released instructions for individuals to make face masks at home while surgical face masks are being prioritised for medical workers.

These masks which can be made using supplies found at home include two that do not need a sewing machine as well as a sewn cloth option.

According to the ministry, the cloth face masks have to fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face, be secured with ties or ear loops, include multiple layers of fabric, allow for breathing without restriction and be able to be laundered and machine dried without damage or change to shape.

The GulfWeekly has also been reporting on several not-for-profit initiatives that are creating masks to promote social health.

The simplest homemade mask, can be made with a square 50cm X 50cm bandana, a coffee filter and two elastic bands.

These cloth face masks are the minimum level of protection to have when going out into public areas. Hand and surface sanitisation remain ever-important to protect personal and public health.

Especially when putting on and taking off facial protection, it is crucial that hands not make contact with your face, as much as possible, or if unavoidable, hand sanitisation is a must.

The Covid-19 coronavirus can survive on surfaces for up to three hours so it is essential that all surfaces you rest your face mask on, including your phone, are sanitised multiple times a day.
