A couple of big-hearted high school students are rallying youngsters from across the kingdom to join them on their newly formed initiative aimed at inspiring change within the community for a better tomorrow.
The “Volunteers of Tomorrow” was co-founded by Bahrain Bayan School students Shaikha Lulwa Feras Al Khalifa and Zeyad Al Sakhi in July to gather like-minded pupils who have the same drive and passion to make changes for the benefit of the community. According to the determined duo, the aim is to help the underprivileged through various community projects, with the implementation of social distancing, and online campaigns.
“In this current predicament, our determination to do what we can to aid our community far exceeds any reluctance,” explained Shaikha Lulwa. “We wish to inspire not only the youngsters of Bahrain, but also youngsters globally to understand the value of giving and connecting to their communities in a time when we are separated.
“We wish to embed humanitarian principles and practices in the Bahraini youth to facilitate community-led change, therefore, improving the standard of living of the underprivileged.
“These opportunities will allow us to recognise skills and work ethics that would benefit us in the future. Also, we hope that this would encourage young people to become more involved in helping their communities.”
The group is registered under the Fatima Bint Resq (FR) Project, which is a non-profit organisation and charity. “At first, we registered under the National Honour Society of Bahrain Bayan School,” explained Zeyad. “However, we did not want this initiative to be limited to the members of our particular school but rather to the entirety of the Bahraini youth.
“While developing the idea of this initiative, we envisioned projects that are 100 per cent student-led with a national appeal. That is why we took the leap and registered under the FR Project. By doing so, they guided us to introduce the Volunteers of Tomorrow as an established legal entity of its own.
“As a result, the Volunteers of Tomorrow is open to any determined youth who is willing to make changes to the benefit of their community.”
Their first act of kindness campaign is the Non-Contact Delivery Project. The objective is to deliver essential hygiene products to labourers in Riffa, Zallaq, Manama, Isa Town and Hamad Town. This project is an expansion of FR Project’s previous campaign of delivering essentials to labourers in Durrat Al Bahrain.
Zeyad said: “They are among the most vulnerable because of their working conditions. Our aim is to aid their needs, and by doing so, reduce the spread of the virus. Also, taking part in servicing your community is not only beneficial to those you are helping; it sends a message of hope and connection as well.”
Shaikha Lulwa added that their initiative not only seeks to help respective communities in the kingdom but they also hope to provide aid to affected countries who have dealt with a range of crises including famine, poverty, this current pandemic and ongoing wars.
