The penultimate day of Bahrain’s largest virtual event kicks off today with security and start-up tips for business owners and budding entrepreneurs.

The sixth edition of Manama Entrepreneurship Week (MEW) is being conducted virtually for the first time and was launched on Sunday, under the patronage of Capital Governor, Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa.

During opening remarks on Sunday, Shaikh Hisham said the event would feature panel discussions and fireside chats about digital transformation, technological innovation and disruptions, which will guide entrepreneurs especially during the current Covid-19 climate.

MEW has thus far included free Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services trainings, in addition to a host of discussions about the impact of the pandemic on a variety of sectors as well as how to navigate this impact.

On the first day of the conference, diversity and digital transformation were at the top of the agenda.

Baybars Altuntas, former senior adviser of the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) and executive chairman of the World Business Angels Investment Forum (WBAF) balked at conventional wisdom and predicted that the post-pandemic start-up ecosystem would attract more capital for the start-ups that prove their mettle during this crisis.

Today’s sessions will focus on the post-pandemic economy, with specialised sessions exploring the financial and cybersecurity of companies in the years to come.

A panel in the evening will help entrepreneurs explore how they can adapt their products and services during challenging times.

Additionally, tomorrow’s session will include the fifth innovation and entrepreneurship forum by the University of Bahrain. It will focus on resilience in the era of Covid-19 and will be followed by a networking session in the evening, organised by Rotaract Bahrain.

The five-day conference will close with a workshop to enable businesses to rejuvenate their business with design thinking and innovation.
