A new state-of-the-art project in Hamala that pays homage to Bahrain’s heritage is set to be unveiled early next year, writes Naman Arora.

The Al Liwan project by Bahrain’s Seef Properties is nearing completion and the developers hosted a tour last week to showcase the commercial and residential facilities on-site.

The 122,000sqm masterpiece, which oversees Wali Al Ahad highway, will play host to restaurants, cafes, cinema theatre, a family entertainment centre and retail stores, as well as 117 three-storey residential units.

Saudi-based BinDawood Holding also recently signed an agreement to lease out 5,000sqm of space at the project for the first Danube supermarket in Bahrain.

“The opportunities in Bahrain, and specifically in Al Liwan project, are significant,” said Ahmad BinDawood, chief executive of BinDawood Holding, which owns and operates Danube supermarkets.

“We are going to be the anchor grocery retailer on this important project, providing employment for local residents and creating healthy food options for a very large and dynamic community and the surrounding neighbourhoods.”

‘Al Liwan’ in Arabic refers to the spacious hall surrounded by walls in old houses that were allocated for receiving guests.

The residential buildings will be named after trees found in Bahrain, including Yanboot, Awsaj, Nakhla and Sidra.

The project, by Lama Real Estate Development W.L.L, will also feature large green spaces and waterfronts, the most prominent of which will bear the names of Al Ain, Al Baraha and Al Hadeeqa.

“With its unique blend of housing, entertainment and hospitality, Al Liwan provides an innovative lifestyle for residents and visitors. The generous greeneries and waterfronts will be a mesmerising addition to various facilities at the project. It will meet the aspirations of families and individuals, making it the preferred ‘go-to’ spot for citizens, residents and tourists from all nationalities,” said Seef Properties chief executive Ahmed Yusuf.
