Photographers, artists and designers from across the kingdom have an opportunity to be part of the sustainability drive of one of the country’s leading hypermarkets, writes Naman Arora.

The campaign was launched by Carrefour Bahrain and will integrate locally sourced artistic designs into its reusable bags.

Each applicant has until tomorrow to submit a single design, inspired by Bahrain’s culture, way of life, identity or landmarks, to the chain’s social media accounts, using the hashtag #Carrefour_NoPlastic.

Beyond giving creators a platform to highlight their designs and show their passion for environmental sustainability, the winning design will also receive a BD100 prize.

“This competition aims to involve our communities and emphasises that Carrefour is from the region, for the region,” said Jerome Akel, Carrefour Bahrain’s country manager.

“This competition also forms part of our sustainability initiative and the fight against single-use plastic. We have set a goal of eliminating single-use plastic across all our stores by 2025. In addition, starting last month, we began using reusable bags for our online orders and have made them available free of charge, encouraging customers to utilise them while shopping.”

The winner will be announced on February 18 on official social media channels.
