SCORES of citizens and residents benefited from a social outreach programme launched by a private hospital to help pre-diabetic patients.

The American Mission Hospital, in collaboration with AstraZeneca and in consultation with charities and social organisations, held a free diabetes screening camp last Friday at its facility in Manama.

According to the National Health Survey in 2018, 15.4 per cent of Bahraini respondents indicated they had diabetes and its prevalence among non-Bahrainis was 6.9pc.

“Regular community outreach programmes have always been a part of the ethos of AMH,” said AMH corporate CEO Dr George Cheriyan.

“Some 120 years ago, AMH was established as a pioneering organisation to serve the community. And we are glad, today, that we continue to reach and touch the community in many different ways, positively.

“Partnering with premier pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies like AstraZeneca, in these kinds of community outreach projects, helps us reach a wide cross section of society. Only by increasing awareness, screening and knowledge of medical problems can we hope to increase wellness in the community.”

Saar Charity Fund, Barbar Charity Fund, and Kozhikode Jilla Pravasi Forum (KPF) were involved in organising the camp, which drew more than 50 pre-diabetic patients, citizens and expats, according to AMH.
