Bahraini artist and porcelain painter Huda Al Saie is showcasing her colourful canvases created during the pandemic.

The exhibition, which Huda has dubbed The Corona Period, is being staged in Masso, a restaurant in Adliya, and will run until September.

Her inspiration for the paintings and the idea of featuring her artwork at a restaurant came from past travels with her late mother and family.

“We used to dine in many restaurants around the world such as in Milan and Paris,” said Huda, who studied mass communications and fine arts at the American University of Beirut.

“There were always exhibitions by different artists being featured in the trendy and famous restaurants we dined in. We even bought a few while dining. My late mother was very artistic and loved art and fashion.”

Aside from her passion for painting with acrylic, Huda mastered the art of porcelain in Geneva at the Atelier de’ Bossey in the early 80s. In 1986, she began teaching porcelain art to students in Bahrain.

Her specialisation in porcelain afforded her numerous commissions from companies, museums and institutions and all her porcelain works were produced in France. Her work was featured at the Dubai Civil Aviation Department VIP launch at the Dubai Air Show in 2005, at the UNESCO World Heritage’s Pearl Route in Bahrain and even at Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture and Research in Muharraq in 2004.

Huda then implemented her porcelain painting on canvases and staged a few exhibits with her acrylic work. She showcased her series Mirage of Colours bat a cafe in Adliya and From the Land of Eternity at the aquabitArt gallery during Berlin Art Week 2020.
