The ‘Amazing Taste of Thailand’ festival kicked off last week at the Al Jazira Supermarket, Zinj, writes Naman Arora.

Thai Ambassador Thanis Na Songkhla cut the ribbon to open the festival, which runs until September 5. Philippines Ambassador Alfonso Ver, Indonesian Ambassador Nur Syahrir Rahardjo, Brunei embassy chargé d’affaires Ahmad Jumat, and other dignitaries were present.

“We have been importing Thai products for a long time, and hope to highlight some of these in this festival,” said Abdul Hussain Dawani, chairman of the Dawani Group, which owns Al Jazira Supermarkets.

“Southeast Asian nations, including Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia, are the source of numerous finished products and raw materials that are integral to our business operations. We look forward to further expanding these partnerships in the future.”

Thanis led the delegation on a tour of the supermarket, showcasing Thai ready-to-consume products as well as dishes being prepared by the Royal Thai, Shada and Khunnay Kanom Thai restaurants.

The cooking demonstrations continue this Friday and Saturday at the Zinj location of Al Jazira Supermarket. Shada restaurant will conduct a cooking demonstration at 11.10am, followed by one by Khunnay Kanom Thai at 12.30pm.

The festival has been organised in partnership with the Thai Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP).

“The main purpose of organising this festival is to increase awareness of quality Thai products among local buyers,” said Panot Punyahotra, director of DITP – Dubai.
