A group of emerging female artists, who took part in a series of workshops with renowned Bahraini artist Omar Al Rashid, have finally put their colourful creations on show for all art lovers to enjoy.

The exhibition – Reinventing Colours – at Akkas Gallery features around 50 paintings boasting mixed mediums produced by 18 artists of different nationalities and backgrounds ... such as Russian abstract and landscape painter Irina Kotova.

“The exhibition is a result of a number of workshops with Mr Omar which took place in November 2019 and January 2020,” said the 49-year-old multi-skilled artist from Saar. “He shared with us his visions and techniques and each artist applied her own style to them. The result is truly amazing and now we can finally showcase them.

“It is important for many artists at this point of time to feel that ‘normal life is back’. Still, a lot of restrictions have been put in place and everyone is careful. All of us are very happy to see paintings and visitors back in the gallery.”

Irina herself is featuring three paintings, two of which were created during the workshop called Towards the Sun 1 and Towards the Sun 2. Her third painting, created recently, was inspired by the workshop.

“You will see Mr Omar’s signature colour selection in that painting combined with my favourite subject – the seascape,” added Irina. “The overall mood that I am capturing is happiness and hope. We should always gravitate towards the sun!”

The exhibition, which ends on October 24, also includes Aisha Khunji, Atifa Zainal, Faten Wajhi, Huda Al Saie, Khadija Al Aali, Linda Mattar, Nasreen Al Awadhi, Nawal Kamal, Nahid Al Bastaki, Sara Abdulrazaq, Sara Hammad, Sara Al Aali, Sharifa Yateem, Samya Khunji, Salwa Al Qaed and Shaheera Zainal.

The exhibition is open to visitors from 10am to 6pm daily except on Friday.
