A group dressed in pink and purple hues stepped out in solidarity on Friday to raise awareness about breast cancer and domestic violence.
The ‘Pink ‘n’ Purple Walk was organised by female empowerment group, Women Across (WA), in association with LuLu Hypermarket at Kanoo Garden, Gufool.
The 1km event, which attracted 70 walkers, was attended by Indian Ambassador Piyush Srivastava’s wife, Monika Srivastava, as well as humanitarian and economist Dr Hana Kanoo.
“October was breast cancer and domestic violence awareness month and we believed it was important to stand alongside women facing these situations which is why we hosted the walk,” said Sumithra Praveen, WA co-founder.
WA projects co-ordinator Anupama Binu was also overjoyed with the turnout and positive feedback.
“Awareness matters in such situations and it was great to see everyone come together to spread the knowledge on early detection of breast cancer and the need to report domestic violence of any form,” added Anupama.
Other attendees included Khalil Bin Ebrahim Kanoo director Lubna Kanoo, humanitarian and charity activist Rabab Shamsan, Indian Ladies Association president Nisha Ranga, Art of Living regional head Geethanjali Engineer, Migrant Workers Protection Society member Hana Buhijji and Chartered Accountant Society vice chairwoman Sharmila Shet.
Meanwhile, the Women Across team aims to keep the momentum going with its ongoing initiatives, including a community pantry and several programmes to support women in need.
