A team of big-hearted women are giving the gift of warmth with their latest initiative that aims to help those struggling to make ends meet put concerns over clothing to one side.

Project ‘Hugs – because it matters’ is a clothing drive inspired and launched by the unregistered charity, Women Across (WA) empowerment team, after receiving several requests for a variety of items during past initiatives.

“We are collecting used and less worn clothing to be distributed to the needy,” said Parvathi Mohandas, WA’s media co-ordinator.

“There has been an overwhelming response from both donors and recipients of HUGS and we are distributing items to five to six women each month.”

People are being urged to donate dresses, tops and trousers, as well as provide towels, bed sheets and blankets.

“We need to make sure that the right size and kind of clothes are reaching recipients in good condition,” added Parvathi.

“All donations must be dry cleaned and neatly packed.”

The project started at the beginning of the year after three sets of clothing were given by Suja Premjith to Sumithra Praveen, WA founder, in the presence of Anupuma Binu, WA’s project coordinator.

Those who would like to contribute to the cause can call 39062720 or 38720434. The group is also looking for more volunteers.
