Sport fanatics from across the kingdom will be flocking to the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) tomorrow to take part in the popular Bahrain Sports Day event, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of staying active for a healthier life.
The three-day annual event, organised by Bahrain Sports for All Association, will feature an array of activities for people from all walks of life.
“Bahrain Sports Day was introduced in 1952,” said Isa Mohammed Abdulrahim, president of Bahrain Sports for All Association and International Sports for All Federation.
“It aims to encourage everyone to adopt sports as a part of their daily lives and create awareness about the importance of staying fit and active.
“Since then, we have witnessed the entire kingdom actively taking part in the event – ranging from corporations and individuals to children.
“This is an initiative which is near and dear to our hearts. It unites the country, encourages healthy competition and displays sports in all its glory.
“In addition, we intend to showcase the federations that have worked steadfastly in training athletes who have qualified for the Olympics.
“Hence, this year’s event has evolved to a great extent with the inclusion of various federations, ministries and government institutions. We are working together to ensure that all participants who walk into the venue have a sport they would want to participate in.”
Bahrain Sports Day 2022 will include basketball, football, table tennis, boxing, wrestling, badminton, padel, volleyball and more.
“For thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies, we also have a bungee jumping area, providing an amazing backdrop of the BIC, while taking the plunge,” added Abdulrahim.
“There will also be a kid’s zone, turning the day into a fun-filled family event. In addition, all the sports available at the venue can be booked on the spot and visitors can choose to compete either with friends or with others.”
There are various fun challenges to join in as well, such as the plank challenge, pull up challenge, tug of war and a sack race. Live music and interactive classes on stage will also be available to keep visitors and participants entertained.
Organisers also encourage people to adhere to the directives issued by the National Medical Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus, by maintaining social distancing, wearing facemasks and sanitising regularly.
“Since it’s going to be the biggest sports event in Bahrain, we are expecting a considerable amount of visitors, so please adhere to Covid-19 protocols,” added Abdulrahim.
Bahrain Sports Day was approved as a national event by Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, first deputy chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, General Sports Authority chairman and president of Bahrain Olympic Committee. It runs until February 12, from 11am to 10pm.
