The Spring of Culture Festival returns from Friday until March 31, with a global range of artistic and musical talents alongside lectures and art exhibitions.

The 16th edition of the annual festival is being organised by Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca), Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture and Research and Al Dana Amphitheatre, in co-operation with Al Riwaq Art Space and Albareh Art Gallery.

Five embassies, namely those of Italy, Pakistan, Germany and Egypt, as well as the Spanish embassy in Kuwait, will be taking part.

Here is the line-up of activities for this week:

The popular event will kick off on Friday, which is also Arab Tourism Day, with Akhenaten... Dust of Light, an Egyptian contemporary performance chorographed and directed by Walid Aouni. It tells the tale of an ancient pharaoh through dance and theatre, taking audiences on a journey 3,000 years into the past.

At Bahrain National Theatre at 8pm (tickets required).

The Qalali Folk Band, which boasts a rich, long history stretching back more than 100 years in preserving and promoting the traditional seafaring musical traditions of Bahrain, will be performing on Saturday.

At Dar Al Muharraq at 8pm (free entrance).

Woman Between Reality & Fantasy: Solo Exhibition by artist Ebrahim Khalifa will be held from Sunday to March 13.

At the Art Centre, daily from 9am to 8pm (free entrance).

A lecture on ‘The Role of Enlightened Media in Preparing for the Arab Renaissance: Khaled Al-Rushd’ will be held on Monday. Khaled is a Syrian-Russian journalist born in Moscow that is a programme presenter on TV’s Russia Today.

At Abdullah Al Zayed House for Bahraini Press Heritage at 8pm (free entrance).
