The popular Spring of Culture festival, which ends on March 31, continues this week with a range of artistic and musical talents taking the stage, in addition to lectures and workshops.

The 16th edition is being organised by Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca), Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture and Research and Al Dana Amphitheatre, in co-operation with Al Riwaq Art Space and Albareh Art Gallery.

 Here is the line-up:

l Tonight, there will be a lecture from Luis Monreal, the director general of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture experience, entitled ‘Conservation of the Urban Historic Heritage in the Muslim World’. He is a restoration specialist, art historian and archaeologist. He worked in many institutions, including curator of the Barcelona Museums from 1965-1974 and secretary general of the International Council of Museums from 1974-1985.

l Tomorrow evening, people will be serenaded by the Mohammed bin Faris band, which will feature festive melodies and farewell ballads. The band performs every Thursday and the last show will be held on March 31.

At Mohammed bin Faris Music Hall at 8pm.

l There will also be an interactive sound & light show tomorrow and on Friday, telling the story of Bahrain through Qal’at Al Bahrain. The interactive audio-visual experience will take visitors on a journey through the past and present. This show is every Thursday and Friday, ending on March 24 and 25.

l On Saturday, six leading musicians of the Aga Khan Master Musicians will take the audience on a musical journey in their Aga Khan Master Musicians concert, inspired by their own deep roots in the cultures of the Middle East and Mediterranean Basin, South Asia, Central Asia, and China.

l On Sunday, there will be a symposium on the late poet Shaikh Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa, led by Dr Dheya Al Kaabi in commemoration of World and Arab Poetry Day, which coincides on March 21 each year. The event is called ‘In Yearning for springtime and roses’ and Dr Dheya will touch on ‘Representations of women in the poetry of Shaikh Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa’. Meanwhile, Dr Rashid Najem will discuss ‘Spatial images in the lyrical poems of Shaikh Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa’, Dr Khalifa bin Arabi has ‘The emotional presence in national poems in the poetry of Shaikh Isa bin Rashid’ and Dr Fawaz Al Shurooqi will talk about ‘Shaikh Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa’s stance on the poetry movement in the Kingdom of Bahrain’.

l On Monday, Artist Khalid Farhan unveils his hanging sculpture. The contemporary installation, which is made in the shape of a red flower, caps the series of sculptures created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Shaikh Ebrahim Centre.

l Egyptian opera singer Amira Selim will perform on Monday for music lovers. She has performed in many opera houses and festivals all over Europe and the Middle East and is considered one of Egypt’s important figures in music. In 2002, she earned the top prize at the International Orvieto Competition in Italy.

l International Baccalaureate Visual Arts’ students from Shaikha Hessa Girls School will unleash their creativity through their colourful research notebooks and works in their ‘Omnificent’ exhibition. It will feature artworks by students Latifa Al-Amer and Nour Buqamber from the class of 2022, as well as selected works by students from 2021 and 2020. This will be going on until March 24.
