More than 40 fine art pieces were on exhibit last weekend at the ‘ATK Fine Arts Exhibition’ held amidst young aspiring artists picking up new skills at the Muharraq Model Youth Centre (MMYC).

The Art Attack Krew (ATK) is set to establish residency at the Muharraq Model Youth Centre over the next two months and exhibited the diverse art styles present in the crew, including airbrush, graffiti, neon art, pencil and wood art.

“One of the goals of the MMYC is to highlight and empower Bahraini youth,” MMYC youth activities specialist Hajar Shaaban told GulfWeekly.

“During these third days, we are hosting the exhibition as well as a number of workshops for locals to get to know ATK and understand how they will be a part of the MMYC.

Throughout the three-day event, there were three spaces for children to experiment with and learn about watercolour painting, pencil and crayon art as well as pottery and masks.

Pieces created by the children were taken home by them. On the sidelines, Salman Aljar, co-organiser of the exhibition, created unique wood-burned pieces for the children, inscribed with their names.

In addition, a special workshop was conducted by ATK on Friday, focused on creating neon art. Neon art is a relatively new media utilising black lights to create visually stimulating forms of art, often incorporating motion and interactivity.

These pieces often starkly change colour when bathed in neon lights.

“The goal is to establish a new art space here in Muharraq and we especially wanted to highlight some of the new talent at ATK,” Hajar added.

“We plan to continue collaborating with ATK for another similar event in September, and if all goes well, for the whole upcoming year.”

Amongst the ATK artists showcasing their work at the exhibition were Isa Mubarak, Maryam Mansoor, Salman Aljar, Heba Mahdi, Zahra Almukhtar, Shalini Pillai, Azhar Althawadi and Vijin Rameshan.
