What is happening with the DC Universe? Is Wonder Woman 3 cancelled? Is Jason Momoa really leaving his role as Aquaman? And what of the fate of Superman?

It seems like James Gunn, the architect of Marvel’s hit Guardians of the Galaxy series, who’s also brought his touch to DC properties like The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, is making some dramatic changes to DC in his new management role with his partner Peter Safran (who serves as co-chairperson and CEO of DC Studios alongside Gunn).

Reports have popped up that Gunn, Safran and Warner leadership has cancelled the planned Wonder Woman 3 much to Gal Gadot’s dismay and other DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movies might have similar fates as well. The list includes Man of Steel 2, which would have seen Henry Cavill return to his Superman role, and a sequel to Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam. Momoa will not play Aquaman after Aquaman 2 slated for December 25, 2023, either as he will be taking on a new slightly more obscure DC character – Lobo.

The duo definitely have their work cut out for them and have been secretly planning to relaunch the DCEU. They will present their ideas to Warner Bros. Discovery chief executive officer David Zaslav and then DC fans will see which direction films will go.

Gunn and Safran’s plans might not include continuing any of the DCEU stories that viewers enjoyed from the ‘Snyderverse’, as it’s often called.

Whether the stars playing DC superheroes will return in similar or different roles is also a bit of a mystery. It is odd though, why would Cavill announce that he would return to his Superman role and have an unnecessary cameo in Black Adam when Man of Steel 2 has been axed.

Although after all the hubbub about Superman, Gunn tweeted a poster for the original 1978 Superman movie, which many took as a sign that he was thinking about future Superman movies. Gunn then confirmed in a response to a fan that Superman is a huge priority, if not the biggest priority.

If only the lasso of truth really existed then maybe these superheros can get some real answers.

What is for certain— Shazam! Fury of the Gods will be featured on March 17 next year and Blue Beetle  will be out on August 18.
