Pop legend Miley Cyrus’ lead single Flowers from her upcoming album Endless Summer Vacation has been making waves around the internet, as fans dissect its lyrics for jabs thrown at her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth.

The three-minute-21-second single was officially released on January 13, coinciding with Liam’s birthday, with Miley making a point by releasing it a day earlier in many parts of the world, except for Australia – her ex-husband’s birth place.

The song is set to become the self-love anthem of the year, along with its music video, which both reflect Miley shedding layers and reacclimatising into her own skin at her home.

The lyrics pull no punches at Liam as Miley croons: “I can take myself dancing/ And I can hold my own hand/ Yeah, I can love me better than you can.”

Musically, the song leaves behind Miley’s previous album Plastic Hearts’ 1980s rock sound, instead infusing her lyrics with a disco funk sound with sections of flamenco.

If this single, now available on all major streaming platforms, is a trailer for the album to come, we can’t wait, both for the music and the flowerbed of conspiracy analyses sure to be sown alongside the release.
