Freshly-brewed aromatic coffee, signature lounge-friendly beverages, passionately baked pastries and gourmet snacks perfect for any time of the day ...  Lamar Café and Lounge at Hilton Bahrain has been known for these treats since its launch.

Having once visited the cafe to conduct an interview for the GDN, I was impressed with the well-presented pastry display at the Hilton Hotel’s lobby; one that I can bet would be difficult for anyone to walk past without a second glance.

So I was more than happy when I was sent a box of five specialty pastries to review from Lamar - the Vanilla Caramel Choux, Chocolate Dome, Berries and Pistachio Cream Tartlet, Lamar Opera and the Exotic Cheesecake.

The choux was light, airy and filled with vanilla custard and caramel, sized perfectly for sharing with a loved one, while the tartlet was surprisingly delicate, with a light pistachio cream that was dotted with fresh berries and the perfect biscuit base to tie it all together.

The cheesecake was bold, with tropical and citrus flavours; tangier than the cheesecakes that you may be normally used to, but one that I welcomed wholeheartedly for its zingy nature.

The Lamar Opera was a coffee lover’s dream!

The seven-layer opera slice tasted as if it would have been impossible to pack any more coffee flavour into it and I thoroughly enjoyed the unabashed love for everyone’s favourite beverage portrayed in such a manner.

As much as I loved the opera, I am partial to anything chocolate and so the Chocolate Dome was my favourite. This dessert was striking to behold, with a glazed top and shards of chocolate decorating the top and the sides. Cutting into the dome revealed even more detail, with dark and white chocolate cream, crunchy feuilletine and raspberry jelly, for the slightest of tangy fruitiness.

The dessert was incredibly light in texture and melted in the mouth, leaving behind the crunchy feuilletine, which provided a delightful contrast in texture to the otherwise airy dessert.

Led by Head Chef Ismail Bin Joned, the Lamar Café and Lounge is located at the Hilton Bahrain’s lobby.

Guests can look out for the café’s Valentine-themed cakes and pastries as well as the launch of its most-awaited Afternoon Tea with an introductory offer of BD18 net for two ... coming soon.
