Bahrain-based Laughter Ambassador Keyem Thomas has become a master at his therapeutic trade.
The certified laughter yoga instructor is now a certified master trainer, which is the highest level for the practise with only 67 people ranked around the world.
“It was a long journey from laughter yoga leader to master trainer,” said the 61-year-old administration manager with ZOOM consultancy.
“Master trainers are qualified to train and certify others as laughter yoga teachers and leaders, and are directly trained by the founder of laughter yoga — Dr Madan Kataria.
“Dr Madan and his wife Madhuri, who is also the co-founder of Laughter Yoga International, honoured me with this certificate. I feel so incredibly proud and would like to thank everyone in the laughter yoga family who have inspired and supported me. I look forward to continue sharing the joy of laughter yoga far and wide.”
According to the chuckle master, laughter yoga has grown in popularity in Bahrain and is now being practised in schools, social clubs, old age homes, Toastmasters groups and corporations.
“Laughter yoga helps employees stay happy and stress free. It also helps boost productivity,” said Keyem.
The practice is based on the belief that voluntary laughter provides similar physiological and psychological benefits as spontaneous laughter.
