This week’s cultural festivities will surely put a spring in your step as there will be musical performances and poetry too.

The 17th edition of Spring of Culture, which boasts more than 50 activities, will run until the end of this month.

* Enjoy ‘An Italian Journey’ on March 9 at 8pm. The event, which pays homage to the great Italian musical tradition with a succession of iconic music pieces, opera arias and duets, is being held in collaboration with Italian Embassy in Bahrain.

Music lovers will delight in the classic Italian opera featuring composers such as WA Mozart, Tosti, Verdi, Donizetti, Rossini, Puccini, Mascagni and Respighi.

Venue: Cultural Hall

* The Qalali Folk Band, which boasts a rich history stretching back more than 100 years preserving and promoting the seafaring musical traditions of Bahrain, will take to the stage on March 11 at 8pm.

They are known for performing the Al-Fjiri genre of the Qalali village in Muharraq.

They have participated in local and international events in a bid to share their art and showcase the ancient history of civilisations inhabiting this part of the world.

Venue: Dar Al Muharraq

* Jordanian-Palestinian writer and poet Rashid Ali Issa will be sharing his work entitled Sea in a Bottle on March 13 at 8pm. He was appointed as the editor-in-chief of Jordanian magazine Al-Katib and is a member of the Jordanian Writers Association and the Curriculum Authoring Committee in Jordan’s Ministry of Education.

Rashid’s poetry and articles have appeared in Arab magazines and he also published books on criticism, communication and life skills as well as songs for children and short story collections.

Venue: House of Poetry - Ebrahim Al Arrayed
