Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey has dropped her ninth studio album, treading further along her path into uncharted territory and finding her sound somewhere between traditional pop and its dreamy outer reaches.

The American artist’s latest album Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd is a 16-track set, comprising 14 songs and two interludes.

Lana doesn’t hold back on this album and with a musical royalty list of collaborators from Jon Batiste to Judah Smith and Father John Misty, her newest work has been receiving critical acclaim, with some critics even calling it her magnum opus.

Three singles from the album were debuted ahead of the full release – the title track Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd in December last year, followed by A&W released last month and The Grants earlier this month.

The sound consists of dreamy, synthetic pop ballads revolving around Americana with a splash of spirituality as the 37-year-old musician continues to offer perspective through the paradigm of death.

Amongst the highlights of this relatively long 78-minute album are Paris, Texas featuring SYML and Candy Necklace featuring Jon Batiste.

The 13th track, Margaret, was inspired by one of the co-producers Jack Antonoff’s fiancé, Margaret Qualley, and features his band, Bleachers while Kintsugi and Fingertips were described by Lana as “super long and wordy,” containing her innermost thoughts.

Producers for the album include Mike Hermosa, Lana, Jack, Drew Erickson, Zach Dawes and Benji, and the album artwork was shot by one of Lana’s frequent collaborators Neil Krug and chosen from 65 different images of the singer.
