When three of the best jazz musicians of this day and age came together in 2020 to form a super-group with one of the best working producers, the musical world knew it would not be disappointed.
And now, with the release of their third album Engimatic Society, the quartet of Dinner Party continues to dazzle music lovers and critics.
The hybrid jazz super group featuring saxophonist Kamasi Washington, pianist Robert Glasper, multi-instrumentalist Terrace Martin, and North Carolina producer 9th Wonder stays loyal to their mutual muses of ’70s soul, ’90s hip-hop, R&B, and jazz, while also refining it into something of a sonic experience.
The nine-track album may be short but each second is layered and expertly crafted, with a bevy of renowned musicians joining the super-group as collaborators.
The new songs were showcased during the group’s appearance at Coachella, building on the hype of Dinner Party’s second album Dessert, which was nominated for a Grammy Award.
