Anglophiles and royalists who may not get enough of their frivolous fix during the upcoming coronation of UK’s King Charles III can turn to a new Netflix spin-off of the Bridgerton series, set to drop tomorrow, May 4.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story tells the tale of the young eponymous queen’s rise to power, her marriage to King George and the transformation of high society.
Created by Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice and Scandal), the six-episode limited series stars Golda Rosheuvel in the title role, with India Amarteifio playing her younger version. Adjoa Andoh and Ruth Gemmell reprise their roles as Lady Danbury and Dowager Viscountess Bridgerton, respectively.
The series, directed by Shonda’s long-time collaborator Tom Verica, explores a branch of the popular Bridgerton show, which revolved around the eponymous family and is set in the competitive world of Regency era London’s ton during the social season where marriageable youth of nobility and gentry are launched into society.
