Everyone’s favourite comedy of manners is set to take centre stage next Tuesday at the British Club in Bahrain, with a cast of amateur and professional thespians.

The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde will be performed at the club premises in Umm Al Hassam on Tuesday, May 23, Wednesday, May 24, Friday, May 26 and Saturday, May 27, with doors opening at 7pm and the show starting at 7.30pm.

The play, being staged by the Manama Theatre Club, follows the exploits of two young gentlemen, Jack Worthing (Ghazi Al Shehabi) and Algernon Moncrieff (Ahmed Al Shehabi) who create alter-egos to escape their tiresome lives. The play is full of witty dialogue and clever wordplay, and it is considered one of Oscar Wilde’s greatest works.

The play is being produced by Ghassan Chemali, Amy McGavin and Ghazi, with Amy also taking the reigns as director and appearing in the play as Gwendolin Fairfax.

Ghassan also appears on-stage as Dr Chasuble, and is joined by Ahlam Boudeaa as Cecily Cardew, Ebrahim Khan as Lan/ Merriman, Anne Kooheji as Lady Bracknell and Catherine Noor as Miss Prism.

Lights will be handled by David Hawthorne, sound by Mike Jackson, set design by Ghassan, stage management by Gaby Pearson, costume and props by Amy and Catherine and make up by Paige Morgan Leresche.

Tickets are priced at BD8.500 for club members and BD10 for non-members.
