Nomadic Nikos Daskalo spends his time exploring the world to learn about different cultures and introduce the hidden gems to aspiring travel bugs through images and reels of his trips.
In May, he spent two days in Bahrain, engaging himself in the kingdom’s heritage and admiring the landscape which not only captured his heart but also that of his 5,114 Instagram followers.
“Despite its relatively small size, Bahrain possesses a vibrant ambience and serves as a melting pot of various cultures,” said the 33-year-old Greek-Brit who describes himself as a travel adventurer specialising in drone cinematography and living between Athens and London. “I had the pleasure of exploring the country in late May and I was immediately captivated by its unique location in the world, rich cultural heritage, remarkable architecture and its breathtaking natural beauty.
“The city is rapidly developing, yet it manages to preserve its traditional neighbourhoods and historical buildings. I was truly impressed by the perfect balance between innovation and the preservation of cultural heritage.
“I immersed myself in the local culture and made the most of my two-day visit. Departing in late May, I left with a sense of wonder and excitement, eager to share my experiences with my followers.”
Nikos used high-quality equipment to snap up images of the island as well as drone footage from different locations including the Tree of Life, the World Trade Centre and the Dragon Rock.
His primary camera is the Sony A7III, paired with a versatile wide-angle lens, the GMaster f/2.8 16-35mm. As for the drone, he uses the DJI Mavic Air 2S which he says is ‘compact, reliable and offers exceptional aerial footage capabilities’. He has conducted more than 5,000 flights with more than 10,000 hours in the air, resulting in him developing a profound expertise in utilising drones to capture stunning footage and images from his travels.
“As a content creator, my main goal is to introduce my audience to places they may not have known existed and educate them about different cultures, food habits, religions, and ways of life around the world,” said Nikos who studied and worked as a nutritionist and personal trainer for more than 15 years before focusing solely on video editing and sharing his explorative content with the world.
“Through my videos, I strive to inspire a sense of wanderlust and promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of our diverse world. The feedback from my followers regarding my Bahrain reels has been overwhelmingly positive. They have expressed their admiration for the beauty of the country and their desire to visit Bahrain themselves. It’s incredibly rewarding to see that my content resonates with others and sparks their curiosity about new destinations.”
Asked if he will be visiting Bahrain again, his answer was an emphatic ‘yes’. “Although I have already experienced some of the main attractions, Bahrain has so much more to offer,” added Nikos. “Its hidden gems and unexplored areas await discovery and I am excited to return and further delve into the country’s rich cultural tapestry.”
Including Bahrain, Nikos has explored 90 countries and his next adventure will take him to Laos and Cambodia.
“Looking ahead, my destination list is extensive and ambitious,” he shared. “My ultimate goal is to visit every country in the world and create documentaries that capture the essence of each place. I would like to emphasise the importance of embracing travel opportunities whenever they arise. Life is short, and if we continually postpone our dreams, we may never have the chance to realise them. I encourage everyone to adopt the Nike motto ‘just do it’— and travel the world, expand your horizons and seize every opportunity to explore and learn.”
