Mixing expansive storytelling with eclectic lyricism and a smooth, mature sound, Canadian rapper Haviah Mighty has released her second studio album.

Building on her Polaris-winning critically acclaimed first studio album 13th Floor, the new album titled Crying Crystals ruminates on the kaleidoscope of emotions that the end of a relationship brings.

The 13-track album features collaborations with Omega Mighty, Zach Zoya, JessB and Jean Deaux.

Haviah has been making waves over the last few years in the Canadian music world with 13th Floor as well as her mixtape last year Stock Exchange, which went on to win the Juno for Rap Album of the Year.

On this 40-minute album, she is single-minded about the subject, but uses her smart lyricism to dive into a journey of personal growth and acceptance through every stage of a deteriorating relationship.

Having grown up influenced by the battle rap culture of the 1990s and early 2000s, Haviah turns the trope of rappers ‘dissing’ each other on its head, and instead centres the battle within herself, exploring different sides of her own personality.

Instead of politics or musical self-portraits, this album is a collection of vignettes telling a much-heard story, but infused with her comforting and cathartic candour.
