Lightning thief Percy Jackson and his powerful friends will be taking over television in December with the release of its first season full of adventures.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians, based on the fantasy book series of the same name, was written by author Rick Riordan, who will serve as producer for the upcoming TV show that was picked up by Disney+ and set to air on December 20, this year.

Fans of the fantasy-fiction featuring elements of Greek mythology, will get to see Percy and his best buds, Grover and Annabeth, as they navigate new powers.

According to the show’s official synopsis, Percy and the Olympians tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod who’s just coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. With help from his friends, the trio will embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.

Dan Shotz, one of the showrunners, recently teased how season 1 will lay the foundation for events that will happen in season 2 and beyond.

He explained how different elements of later books could be pulled into season 1 to hint at future events sooner than the books did.

“We have the luxury of having now six books to tap into,” said Dan.

He also indicated that there will be more hints about the larger story elements of the series in season 1 when compared to the books.
