Musicians from across Bahrain are adding their voices to a global open letter calling for an end to the Gaza conflict, hoping to use their platforms for peace and justice, writes Naman Arora.
More than 1,000 artists from around the world have signed the ‘Music for a Ceasefire’ open letter, which is being co-ordinated by the UK-based Peace and Justice Project, founded by British politician Jeremy Corbyn.
In Bahrain, so far, OFFtrack and Fluorescent Ink have become amongst the first to sign the petition, which was launched on November 10.
“We the undersigned call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the bombardment of Palestine that has already taken the lives of over 10,000 innocent civilians, aid workers and journalists,” the organisers of the petition wrote in the letter.
“We are a diverse coalition of artists, musicians and performers calling for an end to the siege of Gaza, immediate humanitarian aid for the many frightened, starving and wounded civilians trapped amongst the rubble, and meaningful diplomatic intervention from our political leaders to facilitate the release of hostages, an end to the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestine, and for lasting peace in the region.”
OFFtrack has been included in the first set of 1,000 bands to endorse the petition, and Fluorescent Ink will be included in the next batch.
