AMERICAN writer Ransom Riggs’ new book Sunderworld, Vol. I: The Extraordinary Disappointments of Leopold Berry is set to hit the shelves on August 27.

The story follows weird sightings, plucked from a 90’s fantasy TV show Max’s Adventures in Sunderworld.

Seventeen-year-old Leopold experiences hallucinations around Los Angeles, which include a man who pops a tooth into a parking meter, a glowing trapdoor in a parking lot, and a half-mechanical raccoon with its tail on fire. He and his friend Emmet soon discover that the show is not make-believe, but real.

“I’ve always been drawn to portal fantasies in fiction. They feel like invitations to optimistic worlds where, ultimately, joy is possible, if only you can find the key,” Ransom said in an interview.

This is set to be the author’s first new work since his Miss Peregrine series, which had its first novel adapted into a movie. Released in 2016, it was directed by Tim Burton.
