My maternal grandfather and both of my uncles battled cancer.

Sadly, my grandfather and one of my uncles passed away, while the other survived after receiving proper treatment.

The emotional toll of losing loved ones, combined with the financial strain of treatment, was extremely challenging for our family.

Cancer may be more common today, but the uncertainty, fear, and heartbreak never get easier. Despite all of this, the love and support we found in each other gave us the strength to endure.

I have observed some of my close friends and family deal with the ordeal of having a loved one suffer from cancer.

The first blow is when the news is shared, which is typically met with denial. Once it sinks in, the mental turmoil makes one feel isolated. Questions like ‘why me’ begin to surface. Prayer and emotional support help to an extent. Eventually, one comes to terms with reality. Even so, I’ve always wondered about the fear of dying – how does one deal with it. Spiritual comfort and family support are much needed.
