ROMANTIC comedy drama film We Live in Time is set to release in theatres on December 26.

Directed by John Crowley and screenwritten by Nick Payne, the film follows the relationship of Almut (Florence Pugh) and Tobias (Andrew Garfield,) who embark on a path challenged by the limits of time that teaches them to cherish every moment, as they navigate Almut’s cancer diagnosis.

Taking place over the course of a decade, the film implements the use of non-linear storytelling, which skips between three different times in Almut and Tobias’ relationship.

“A lot of illness films tend to follow quite a straight path from wellness to unwellness, you see a decline. That was never the game with this story,” John said in an interview.

“The point is to see how two people make meaning out of their remaining time together after mortality comes and taps them on the shoulder,” he added.

John revealed that despite the movie tackling a heavy topic, he wanted to make space for Andrew’s talents, as he describes him to be a great physical comedian, therefore, he made sure to prioritise balancing grief with humour while working on the film.

He added that he knew the actor would be the perfect choice for playing the role due to his personal experience with grief, having lost his mother to cancer in 2019.
