Sonic reboot

Action-adventure comedy film Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is out now in theatres.

Based on the video game series published by Sega, the movie follows beloved character Sonic (Ben Schwartz) an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog from a distant planet who can run at supersonic speed, and is given a bag of golden rings that open portals to distant locations including Earth.

The third instalment reunites Sonic with Miles ‘Tails’ Prower (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) and Knuckles the Echidna (Idris Elba), who were introduced in the second instalment, as they embark on a mission to defeat the powerful and mysterious villain Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves).

Despite announcing his retirement in 2022, comedy actor Jim Carrey is reprising his role as Doctor Ivo Robotnik, also referred to as ‘Eggman’, a mad scientist and an arch nemesis of Sonic.

“I came back to this universe because I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch, and you know, I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly,” Jim explained in an interview.

Director Jeff Fowler also praised John Wick actor Keanu for his dedication to his role as Shadow, saying that he offered doing multiple takes to ensure his delivery would fit.

“It’s so awesome that we got Keanu to voice the character, and he was so fantastic to work with,” Jeff said in an interview.

“I think he definitely understood what we were going for, and was very excited to do his version of it, in our first meeting, he very clearly had gone and done his homework, which was awesome.

“I think people are going to really love his version of Shadow, it’s awesome.”
