You can tell someone is over the age 16 when their favourite thing ‘to do’ is sleep. I am in no way an exception to this rule. I often find myself either physically tired or mentally drained for the majority of the day. The only common solution I have to those two problems is to rest my heavy head against the soft surface of my cotton stuffed pillow.

Our dearest daughter Fatema departed this world for heavenly abode on October 31 at the age of 24. She had been battling muscular distrophy disease all her life and spent the last three years dependent on a ventilator and on a peg tube for food.

The concept of self-care, for me, is synonymous with refueling – taking a step back to replenish my resources to perform important chores productively and consistently. As I grow older and experience pressure from varying sources, I seem to appreciate the importance of taking care of oneself to a larger extent to contain stress. Self-care encompasses a holistic approach towards a healthy body and mind.
