Gulf Weekly Wedding joy marred by Madeleine ordeal

BY the time you read this I’ll be in Portugal helping the family get ready for my sister’s wedding.

As happy a time as it’s going to be, I can’t think about Portugal at the moment without thinking about little four-year-old Madeleine McCann who was abducted from a holiday resort in Praia da Luz.
It has to be a mother and father’s worse nightmare come true – the parents turned their backs for just a few minutes and their daughter disappeared when they were just 100 yards down the road.
Admittedly, the little girl and her siblings shouldn’t have been left alone but when you’re on holiday you can easily be lulled into a false sense of security and think that as long as you can see the front door everything will be alright.
It takes the worst kind of monster to take a child from a family and it doesn’t bare thinking about what must be going through her little four-year-old head.
There can be no easy outcome from something like this because whatever it is she’s had to go through these last few weeks will doubtlessly leave her scared for life.
But I hope that she has been found alive by the time I return to Bahrain.
