Gulf Weekly Typhoon set to blow you away

GET ready to be blown away by a new sophisticated nightspot called Typhoon hidden in the depths of the Gulf Hotel in Manama.

For below the popular Thai restaurant a new eating, drinking and meeting place has been created and GulfWeekly was given an exclusive behind-the-scenes look.
Combining both traditional and contemporary design elements, Typhoon is an exciting, new and unique concept.
It is incredibly chic, comfortable and classy and has an understated elegance. Somehow, it has managed to combine the tranquillity needed to chill after a busy day at the office – thanks partly to the sounds of running water from the garden area outside – and the buzz needed to make it a perfect environment for a pre-dinner cocktail, and similarly, as an ideal destination in itself as a result of the culinary delights on offer and the music.
Food served is a contemporary selection of Thai fusion Tapas dishes, food martinis and oysters presented by chef Tawatchai Chuto and his team in a unique style which can be a snack or a light meal depending on the mood.
The good lady wife, Kathryn and I, sampled the Bangkok royal platter of prawns, mackerel, chicken, toast and fine spiced duck at BD3.500, alongside the trio of Satays – lamb, chicken and scrimp with Phuket peanut sauce at BD 2.800 and the crab egg surprise with oyster mayo cream at BD2.200.
And, whatever you do, please do not miss the mouth-watering coconut crème brulee with lychee crunchy purses and caramelised banana sauce at BD1.800 on the sweet menu.
“Sin Control”, a good-looking Latin band, boasting an amazing saxophonist, perform every night and certainly know how to put on a soul show inspired by Latin and Cuban rhythms.
With both indoor and outdoor seating, “Typhoon” capitalises on the landscaping of poolside gardens, and features a lagoon with fish and a rock waterfall, set off against a polished outdoor deck area.
Manager Vibeke Anderson said: “Typhoon is aimed to attract a broad clientele, with significant appeal for both in-door and outdoor guests providing the perfect venue for a pre or post dinner beverage experience.”
The cocktails, which also include an array of non-alcoholic energising wonders, will also likely add the venue’s pulling power.
Typhoon is now open from 5pm-2am daily.
