PADDY Gilbert, aged 11, scored a goal in front of his grandparents, Jeremy and Heather, who travelled from the Emerald Isle to watch him play in Italy.

“I scored because they were watching and I wanted to do them proud,” said British School pupil Paddy with a huge grin on his face. My grand-dad used to play professionally for Kilmarnock and my great-grandfather played for Queen of the South in Scotland.”

Al Noor School student, Bahraini Sadiq Ali Mohammed, 14, said he has been playing foot ball all his life and wants to play professionally. “That’s my dream,” he added.

His friend, Greek Alex Babiolaki,s who played in midfield, said: “It was really a fantastic experience.”
Defender Alex Marshall, 14, said he has been playing football since the age of four. “Yes, I want to be a professional footballer too one day!”

Parents who went on the trip were also delighted.
Mum Fiona El Madany said: “My 11-year-old son Taymour won a special price for top goal scorer. We are very proud of him. My parents also flew out from Dublin to watch Taymour so it was a real family affair.”

Mum, Marie Cross, cheered on son Adam, 13, and said: “The boys gelled together and cheered for each other as a team. It was a wonderful trip.”
