A unique BD1 million fashion house is being built in Bahrain which the designer behind the project claims will be the first such complex in the Gulf.
Work on the three-storey building began in January and is likely to be completed by the end of the year. It will be the new home for celebrated Bahraini fashion designer Kubra Al Qaseer who said: “The country is becoming very fashion conscious and this is the right time to create a centre like this.” Located in East Riffa, the complex boasts a total construction area of 3,781 sq m, and will feature a design centre, showroom and bridal make-up rooms. One floor will accommodate a catwalk to allow models to show the designer’s latest creations as well as a ‘tailor-station’ to accommodate 50 tailors and seamstresses. Kubra, who has more than 20 years of designing experience, also plans to provide an ‘entertainment floor’ consisting of a range of spa and fitness, leisure and recreation facilities. In addition to a swimming pool, the floor will also have a Jacuzzi, health club and a coffee shop to be used by clients and VIP guests. The complex, which is being designed to resemble a castle, will also have a design laboratory, fabric painting and colour-mixing rooms, as well as a display area for artists. Making Kubra’s vision become a reality is architect Emad Ismail of Arabian East Bureau in Juffair. “The complex will be glass-clad featuring seven glass domes at the roof-top,” he said. Kubra believes the project will add a new dimension to the fashion industry in the region and further raise awareness of the industry, cosmetics and grooming in general. • Meet the woman behind the million dinar fashion empire –
