● Mount Everest was formed about 60 million years ago!
● In Nepal, Mount Everest is known as Sagarmatha, which means “Goddess of the Sky.”
● The Himalayas are home to 14 of the world’s highest mountain peaks.
● Named after Sir George Everest in 1865, the British surveyor-general in India. Sir George was the first person to record the height and location of Mt Everest, this is where the mountain got its name from.
● It was once known as Peak 15.
