Mount Everest facts
Mount Everest was formed about 60 million years ago!

In Nepal, Mount Everest is known as Sagarmatha, which means “Goddess of the Sky.”
The Himalayas are home to 14 of the world’s highest mountain peaks.
Named after Sir George Everest in 1865, the British surveyor-general in India.  Sir George was the first person to record the height and location of Mt Everest, this is where the mountain got its name from.
It was once known as Peak 15.
