Gynecologist Abdulla Al-Khan from Bahrain helped make medical history after delivering a 60-year-old woman’s twin boys.

Frieda Birnbaum became the oldest woman to give birth to twins in the United States. Baby A made his arrival on Saturday at 12.44pm, weighing in at 4 lbs 11.4 oz with Baby B following closely and arriving at 12.45pm, weighing 4 lbs. 11 oz.
“This was a fabulous outcome. I was extremely thrilled and delighted to deliver a healthy mum and two healthy babies,” said Dr Al-Khan, MD, director of perinatal diagnostics at The Donna A Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Centre. “They are all doing very well.”
Named Outstanding Teaching Attending at the Seton Hall University School of graduate medical education in 2001, the Bahraini doctor received a National Faculty Award for excellence in teaching from the Counsel of Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2002.
In 2004, he received a Faculty Achievement Award from the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Dr Al-Khan has lectured extensively on all areas of perinatal medicine, including general obstetrics and gynecology, at national and international levels.
Graduating from Bahrain School in 1988, Dr Al-Khan moved to the US to continue higher studies. His major interests include management of cancers in pregnancy, recurrent pregnancy losses, fetal diagnostic and therapeutics.
