The Crowne Plaza Bahrain has announced the appointment of its new executive chef, Rainer Mueller.
Chef Rainer, 48, brings to the island 33 years of experience and hopes to share his knowledge in the kingdom by setting up a training programme for young Bahraini chefs. He said he was also hoping to introduce more women chefs into the field. He said: “I would like to bring a modern flair to our buffets and banquet set up here at the Crowne Plaza. “I like to keep things simple and fresh. In my kitchen you will most definitely find everything fresh – be it fruits, vegetables, meat or fish.” Prior to his arrival in Bahrain two weeks ago, Chef Rainer had spent 10 years in Egypt where he worked with various big names in the hospitality sector. He has also rubbed shoulders with royalty and illuminated kitchens of powerful households like the residence of Hosni Mubarak, President of Egypt, and the summer residence of the Sultan of Oman. Chef Rainer added: “One of my greatest experiences during my time at the Movenpick El Gouna Hotel in Egypt was being sent to Riyadh for one month to cook daily for Prince Alwaleed bin Talaal.” Chef Rainer has worked for major hotels in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Taiwan, England, South Africa and Switzerland. He comes from Saarbruecken in Germany and is married with two daughters. This week he shares one of his favourite recipes with GulfWeekly.
