Gulf Weekly Letters to the editor

Dear Stan,
I was delighted to see Shilpa’s Shopping List in the GulfWeekly comparing prices of groceries.

It’s about time someone ‘named and shamed’ some of the local supermarkets!
I would like you to check the price of Cadbury’s 250g chocolate (Whole Nut, Fruit and Nut, Plain) – I have discovered Alosra sell it for BD1.695 and most other supermarkets sell it for around 900 fils (even the small ones like Midway)!  I did question a manager about it and he came up with the shipping costs or something along those lines.
On another occasion, I picked up Berocca vitamins from Alosra but the price wasn’t on the shelf. When I got home I discovered that they weren’t the soluble ones I wanted and also, I’d been charged BD7.200 – before I returned them, I checked at the pharmacy in the Alosra complex and they sell the same vitamins for around BD3.400! Outrageous to say the least!
I’m not totally against Alosra as I do like their bread and other products they stock for ‘Westerners’, however, there are definitely items I do NOT buy from them anymore.
Good luck with your column – I’m sure it will be a huge success!
Kind regards
Fiona Leigh

Editor’s note: A bar of Cadbury’s chocolate will be on Shilpa’s Shopping List next week.

Dear Stan,
This refers to the article entitled ‘Youth Talk’ by Ismaeel Na’ar in last week’s GulfWeekly.
The writer has expressed his deep concern over the bad and deadly effects of smoking amongst the young. We endorse his views and opinions.
As far as the youth of today are concerned, I believe that schools and colleges have to take a leading role in educating them about the ill effects that smoking can cause. They could take on this task with parents and medical health centres.
One other way I would like to suggest to tackle the problem is to encourage the youth of Bahrain to take up a hobby, music, sport or games very seriously and get involved in it.
I believe this could help them to keep away from smoking. Well, can our youth seriously try it out? Any administrative methods adopted by the Government would hardly make any difference.
Yours sincerely,
Seturam Aspari

Dear Stan,
I have just seen the Fashion Shoot in GulfWeekly with photographs by T. Andrew Morton and words by -RdS- and I noticed that the models are all relatively curvy!
I just would just like to say what a breath of fresh air it was to see models like this being used on the catwalk.
Kind regards
