Eyebrow trends change constantly. During the early 1930s and 40s women tended to imitate Hollywood actresses, plucking their eyebrows into the same crescents worn by Betty Davis, Marlene Dietrich and May West.

In the 1950s bolded-shaped brows came in the picture and were popularised by Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor, Ingrid Bergman, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe.
While in the 70s, Brooke Shields and other natural beauties favoured an almost bushy look. In the 90s super waif models barely had brows at all … but this much I can tell you, you don’t need to go to extremes and most definitely can be in fashion, by simply working with what you’ve got!

NATURAL IS BEST: THE MOST FLATTERING SHAPES
Eyebrows create a flattering frame for the eyes and lend balance to the face. Well-shaped eyebrows can also deflect attention from what you consider a flaw, such as close-set eyes or a wide nose.
First, consider what you don’t want: patchy, over-tweezed brows; tadpole brows with a thick inner corner and nearly non-existent line; or brows tweezed into an unnatural half-moon shape.
Such misshapen lines create an unfavourable frame for the eye and diminish your good looks. For instance, too thin brows can make your nose look wider, tadpole brows lend a furrow expression on your face, and half-moon brows give your face an appearance of permanent fright.
Always remember to limit the hair-removal to between, underneath, and at the outer edges of the eyebrows. Shaping above the eyebrow can lead to a flat, arch less, unnatural-looking brow.
First of all, you have to consider what you want – and I presume it would be a realistic line following your natural brow shape. And nature has already done that for you.
Plucking
You have to make the most of what you were born with. The best time to do this is after a shower when the hair is at its pliable. This will also make it a lot easier and less painful.
Tweezers stay in an area with natural light and bright artificially light will also work. Try to identify stray hairs between brows, under brows and at brows’ outer corners. Using a good pair of tweezers grasp individual hairs near their roots and with a swift, sharp movement, pluck hair in the direction it is growing.

STYLING TIPS
If necessary do minor reshaping. Unless your eyes are close-set or wide-set, eyebrows should start at the inner corner. Removing the hair judiciously along the underside of the brows creates more lid space, making small eyes appear larger and more open.
If your eyes are close-set, consider starting eyebrows a few hairs further from the eye’s inner corner.
Creating a wider space between the brows mimics the look of average set-eyes. And, if you have wide-set eyes, create the illusion of average-set eyes by starting brows closer to your nose, and then removing a few extra hairs from your brow ends. Trim any individual hairs that are noticeably longer than the rest.
Ladies, do you know that as we age our brows grow longer and become more unruly? Oh yes! In other words, when you are 30 your brows may look tidy with no trimming, while at age 50 you may find numerous hairs in need of snipping.
Other options in shaping – waxing and threading are two of the most popular reshaping salon treatments made available in most salons.

EYEBROW DEFINITION
Here are some helpful pointers.
For a natural result use a brow pencil, brow powder, cream brow colour, or brow mascara, a colour of the same hair shade you have or something a bit lighter. To extend the eyebrows, simply apply to the outer corners.
Creating a subtle arch is easy using a brow pencil, cream colour, or brow powder. Stand facing the mirror. When looking straight ahead, the area of the brow directly above the outer edge of the iris is where the arch should be placed.
For thicker-looking brows, lightly trace above eyebrows with a brow pencil, cream colour, or brow powder. Use brow brush or an old toothbrush to blend colour and create a natural-looking finish.

BLEACHING AND DYEING
You may bleach or colour your brows by matching it with your hair colour. Word of caution on this, please make sure that a professional from the salon does this for you.

COSMETIC TATTOOING
Well, the only thing I can say is that I would never ever consider this option. But hey, it is up to you to decide on this but before you do please think long and hard about this option before undergoing the needle.
So to sum up:
Work with the eyebrows you have – your natural shape is always the best.
When shaping your brows, go slowly so that you don’t make mistakes.
Sometimes you’re better off going to a professional for eyebrow shaping and colour.
After brows are shaped, brow colour can help add definition.
By the way, just to let you all know the “in-thing” now when it comes to brows are thicker brows ... of course not the bushy ones gals!
