Young Bahraini champion Shaikh Salman bin Rashid Al Khalifa finalised an agreement yesterday with the leading UK-based Formula Three team T-Sport.
Shaikh Salman who is currently 8th in the overall standing of the British Formula Three National class with 48 points after missing the last two races in Monza due to the team change, started the season with Promatecme and managed to get his first podium from the first round of the season in Oulton Park. T- Sport was formed in the summer of 2001 by Russell Eacott the former managing director and team manager of F3/F3000 team Portman Arrows. The team proved its success in 2006 British F3 championship by winning the National class with the Venezuelan driver Rodolfo Gonzalez who is racing this year in the championship class. In 2007, the team is leading the National class with the Mexican driver Sergio Perez with 144 points. Shaikh Salman said: “I am exited about this move to T-Sport, the wealthy experience of Russell will be of great value especially with having team mates with great performance in both classes of the championship, Gonzalez is doing great in the championship class and Perez is leading the national class, it will be very helpful to share data and learn from them. “I would like to thank Chris Weller and the whole team at Promatecme for their support during the first half of the season; I really enjoyed working with them.” Eacott said: “We were following up Salman from the beginning of the season, we believe he is a real talent and have a very good potential. “We are looking forward working with him and see him together with Perez at the front lines” Shaikh Salman will make his first appearance with T-Sport at Brands Hatch in this Friday when the three-day championship resumes with its sixth event.
