Gulf Weekly The power of colour therapy

Dear Betsy,
I read your article about colours and how they can affect us.

I think you are correct as I have noticed that our home office and study area is in pale green and beige and I just can’t focus or concentrate when I am in there. I need to do a lot of my work from home so what colours can I use in this area to keep me awake and able to finish my work.

Dear Harry,
Thank you for your feedback on the power of colour therapy.  I would suggest you paint a wall in a bright orange as this is excellent for a study area. Adding a touch of bright royal blue can help balance the power of the bright orange and blue is said to be the colour of communication, so that should also help you.
You could also try a bit of ‘feng shuey’ to maximize your powers of concentration and focus.
Simple things to do are to make sure your desk is not facing a window as this can be too distracting.  It is best to make sure you sit with your back to a good solid wall as this gives you some support and sense of security.
If you can’t sit in this position then cover the back of your desk chair with a blanket or throw, as a substitute.  Keep your desk as free from clutter as you can.
Place a couple of small cacti plants and a crystal object near to the computer to help absorb the EMW (electromagnetic waves) emissions.
EMW can travel through walls and can wreak havoc to humans, polluting our environment and are said to contribute to skin problems, hair loss, headaches, stress and anxiety. Switch off any electronic equipment that you are not using. Keeping such items on ‘standby mode’ means they are still emitting EMW.
Make sure you drink enough water, as even minimal dehydration can reduce our capacity to concentrate and focus. By the time you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated so drink mineral water throughout the day. Avoid heavy carbohydrate laden foods such as pasta, which are said to make us sleepy.
Drinking green tea with ginger will help keep you alert. Essential oils such as basil, rosemary, peppermint and grapefruit are all uplifting and said to help mental alertness.
Lemon oil will also help keep you alert and studies have shown that when it was used in a workplace situation it also helped to increase productivity and reduce absenteeism. Essential oils will also help to offset the EMW emissions.  Try making a list of tasks you need to get through that day and begin with the one you like least!
This should give you a sense of satisfaction that should motivate you to get through the rest of your workload.
Let me know if any of this helps.
Employers might like to bear the above suggestions in mind when they are planning their office layout!
